The
Porkie was originally bred in the late 1980's. This small but
sturdy cross has a variety of appearances.* The coat may be short,
long and silky, or heavy and abundant with a soft undercoat.
Colors can include white, cream, beige, red, and black.
The Porkie has a wonderful disposition
-intelligent, loving and affectionate, and spirited in
play. Being good with children, the cross makes a great
family pet. It is well-suited for urban life.
Sufficiently active indoors, it will do okay without a yard.
However, it does enjoy going for walks. Depending upon
its coat, the Porkie can require frequent brushing and combing.
Some varieties shed. It is important to maintain
weekly brushing of the teeth as the cross
is susceptible to tooth decay. Health concerns inherent
to the cross include luxating patellas and stenotic
nares.
*The best way to
determine the nature of any cross breed is to look up all breeds in
the cross and understand that any combination of breed-specific
characteristics may be found.
